Music-wise, what was the first 45, single or download you bought?
Submitted by Paddy Melt Wagon.
I was given the 45 "Break My Stride" by Matthew Wilder for a birthday present.
Tuesday night, we got the pleasure of going out to dinner with Ray's colleague, Beat (bee-aht). He is the epitomy of the perfect gentleman. He lives in Minneapolis but originates from Switzerland and still goes back several times a year. We try to have dinner with him around once a year when he's in the area. Dinner with him is always a neat experience. We ate at our new restaurant, Buffalo City Grille. He was very impressed with the newest addition to our town and said it rivaled some of the best in the cities.
Dinner is never rushed with Beat. We visited for about 20 minutes before ordering an appetizer, walleye fingers. After we had eaten those, we finally ordered our main course along with a bottle of wine. The wine was a caubernet sauvignon with plum and blackberry flavors. He asked me to taste it first which made me nervous since I don't like wine and am certainly not a wine taster. My main goal was to not make a face when I drank it since that's what I normally do when drinking wine. I swished it around in my glass and sniffed it before taking a sip. I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't bad for a wine. For the main course, I had prime rib and garlic mashed potatoes, a house salad, and sinfully good corn bread (warm) with honey butter. I did manage to drink a few more sips of the wine before I couldn't handle the taste any longer. I guess I'm not very sophisticated. Of course, we had to have dessert so Ray and I shared White Cloud Pudding (sweet almond mousse topped with whip cream). It was a pleasant surprise, also.
Dinner conversation with Beat often entails work talk between he and Ray, talk of TV shows between he and I, and some politics between all of us. I did learn one interesting bit of information. In Switzerland, people are only buried for 20 years because of lack of space. After 20 years, the bodies are exhumed and he doesn't know what happens to them!
After 3 hours and 15 minutes, our evening came to a close. Of course, he always brings me a present from Europe.
Unfortunately, he has to spend it stressed out at work. Hopefully, things will go well so we can go golfing with our good friends, Deb & Cory, tonight. It is Cory's 35th birthday so we often celebrate them together. I bought an angel food cake, Ray's favorite, for the kids and I to make today. I know, the thought of me baking is a scary prospect. However, the box says "just add water" so I'm hoping I am up to the challenge. Its been several years since I've made an angel food cake and I know Ray will be very surprised!
For his present, I wanted to get him a new BBQ. I decided it was something I really shouldn't pick out myself so will let him make the selection.
We had a really great weekend at the lake. The weather wasn't fabulous but pretty good for Memorial Weekend. The guys went out and fished the first day with little success. The girls went into town and did some shopping and then played lots of cards.
Sunday, Ray & I celebrated 12 years of wedded bliss. Time flies when you're having fun! Lily & I joined the boys for some fishing. Apparently, we were the lucky charms they'd been missing the previous day. In total, we brought in 13 walleye. Lily caught her very first fish on her brand new Barbie fishing pole grandma & grandpa got her. After Ray got her started, she reeled the whole thing in by herself. It was the biggest fish caught that day!
Cody also got a new fishing pole from grandpa & grandma for his birthday. He caught the most fish over the weekend so it must've been lucky.
Grandma & Lily made Cody a birthday cake Sunday night.
Later that night, a bunny nest was discovered in the yard when the neighbor was mowing. The kids had so much fun playing with the bunnies. We tried to fix the nest back up and put the bunnies back in but they were gone the next morning.
Had a nice campfire one night.
We let Cody open his birthday presents before school. I don't know if you can really say open since he had found them before I had them wrapped. They were behind a chair in my room and he ended up laying in our bed when he had the migraine and had a perfect shot of them. Really my fault for not hiding them better.
He's been wanting new clubs and a golf cart. After school, he had a friend come over and then we all went to Paradiso for supper.Last, we went to "Shrek 3". The movie broke down during the previews so there was a 20 minute delay but it was well worth it. I thought the movie was hysterical. If I didn't have a smile on my face, I was laughing through the whole thing. We all thought it was better than the 2nd Shrek.
Part II of the birthday celebration comes this weekend when he gets to bring a friend to the lake for the first time and we'll also celebrate with my parents.
My first born is 10 years old today. The big 1-0. Double digits. I don't know how it happened. I'm sure I haven't been a parent for 10 years. It feels more like 5.
Cody came into the world with a bang. I had a fast but brutal 2 hour 40 minute labor plus forceps (ouch). He was born at 5:40 am, 7 lbs, 20 inches long. Ray and my mom were both there. I remember when they brought him into nurse the first night. He had just had a bath and his hair was all combed over to the side. He was so handsome! It was a great moment with just the two of us.
When Cody was just 1 week old, the colic began. It didn't end until he was 4 months old and it was all day everyday! We were sure wondering what we'd gotten ourselves into! He finally snapped out of it when he was able to start moving. That energy has never quit. He's only happy when he's on the go! He crawled at 6 months, walked along furniture the next day, and walked on his own at 10 months.
Cody is full of life, loves to be funny, has a big heart, and is great with little kids. He is an amazing athlete excelling in football, soccer, and wrestling.
We are proud to be his parents and love him with all our hearts. Happy 10th Birthday!!
Cody's 3rd birthday present:
Cody's first day of kindergarten.
Cody's first day of 3rd grade.
I had such a great day yesterday. It began with Lily crawling into bed and snuggling with me. That in itself is unusual because she's usually demanding food immediately. Then, her and Ray got up and made me his famous pancakes and OJ which I got to eat in bed. After that it was cards & my present.
I've been wanting a new microwave for awhile. This one even has a 2 slice toaster on the right hand side and can do bagles, too. I should've taken a picture of the old microwave. It still worked fine but was huge and at least 20 yrs old. We got it from Ray's parents. The new one matches the rest of our appliances and is much faster.
We went to church where Luther Choir sang. We were down 3 kids and I sure can't get them to sing very loudly. This was their 2nd song.
After church, we picked up Subway for lunch as we had to get to soccer games at 1:30. The boys played at the same time. Jace's team had another blowout and I saw him score twice in the first half.
Cody's team won 4-0 and he scored 2 of the goals. He's so fun to watch. He's got amazing footwork and is so quick!
We rested for a little while after that and then went golfing for the first time this year. It was an unusually hot Mother's Day with a high around 85. Its never relaxing taking the kids but they were better than usual. Cody's just as good as me and Jace is making progress. We ended up joining the public golf course. It was $70 for the whole family to golf once and $454 for a family membership. What a bargain from $1200/year, $60/month for 5 months, and $300 in raffle tickets for the country club! Even better, I had an early present on Mother's Day when we got a check back from our escrow for $488!
We were all exhausted from golfing so just had Ray BBQ a little for supper.
