I just returned from dropping Cody off at his 2nd year of Christian wrestling camp. Its on a lake about 40 miles from here.
Its only 3 nights, thank goodness, because I really don't think I could handle more. I broke down and gotIts a good thing the guys and Lily decided to go fishing yesterday because they brought in 13 walleye after just 1/2 day. The storm from the night before must've stirred up the fish.
Jace had another horrible night alone in his room. I forgot how short bursts of sleep give you really weird dreams. One time, I was even dreaming that Jace kept coming in our room so I don't know if that even qualifies as sleep! He was basically up from 1-4 am. I just don't know what to do! We could move Lily in but eventually he won't want her there anymore and then she'll be the one who struggles. The joys of parenting.
Since the boys are no longer interested in the rides that Lily likes, we had to split up. That's why there are more pictures of Lily than them.
Cody is hiding under Lily on this one. Jace and Gndsgang's son Cody's on the left and Jace is on the right. The first night that Cody spent in his new room, Lily slept with Jace. They were up late with friends and we knew they'd get to sleep faster since Lily was whining. The 2nd night, Lily again slept in Jace's room but this time on Cody's old bed instead of in the same bed as Jace. At about 1:00 am, she came into our room and crawled into bed with us. An hour later, Jace came and wanted to get in bed with us but there was no room. Ray & I were really tired so Ray got annoyed and told him to go back to bed. Jace rarely gets up during the night so I had a feeling he really needed us and while Ray was taking Lily to bed, I went to check on Jace. He was sobbing. Lily ended up waking while Ray was carrying her back to bed so he just put her in bed with Jace again and I laid by both of them for about 20 minutes.
Last night was the 3rd night for Cody to be in his new room. He's doing great with it and didn't even have Rascal with him last night. However, when it came time for bed, Jace started sobbing again. Its really rare for him to cry like that and he finally spilled out that he wanted Cody back in his room. He didn't want Lily, Rascal, or to go sleep in Cody's new room. He just wanted Cody back. It totally broke my heart. He hadn't expressed any concern about Cody's upcoming move downstairs and I'd been too worried about Cody & me to consider how he might feel. They've shared a room since Jace was born so it really should have dawned on us that it could be an issue.
First, I let Jace pick out a book for me to read him. He ended up picking a novel so I said we'd read 2 chapters and then one more chapter each night. We also let him have Rascal for the night. After those chapters were read, he started crying again. I laid down with him for awhile until I thought he was asleep but the moment I got up, he was upset again. Then, Ray came in and sang and played guitar for quite awhile. He thought Jace was asleep but he got upset when Ray left. Jace is usually the first to sleep at night between the kids and it was now nearing 11 pm and we were getting tired & cranky ourselves. We finally just had to initiate some tough love. (It was like having a toddler again). Jace's room is the original master bedroom in our home so it opens into the master bath, which opens into our walk-in closet, and then our bedroom. We left all the doors open so we could talk back and forth, if needed. He finally went to sleep.
At 1:30 am, he woke up. I went in and laid with him for about 15 minutes. The minute I left, he was up crying again. I said I'd stand in the door for 5 minutes but that was it. Once again, tough love was initiated. I told him if he woke up after 5 am, he could crawl in bed with us. I was amazed that he slept until 7 without waking up. Of course, he did remember this morning that I had promised a sleepover and a new Webkinz if he did well at night. He hadn't agreed to those ideas at the time so we'll have to work out the agreement. If anybody has other ideas, I'm open to them. If not, please pray that each night goes better. I hate to see him hurting so much.
Ick, a big carp!
Fishing Day 1 or 2 The girls join the fishing crew Lily's 1st catch out of several Like mother, like daughter.........not about to touch it! 1 of the 2 white bass Cody caught. First day of fishing with the girls. We left out 3 smaller ones. The girls did well! Day 2 with the girls. R.I.P. the Barbie Pole. Lily caught the biggest walleye of the week at 24 inches. Cody's growing up and learned how to clean fish this trip. Jace enjoys retrieving the fish from the bucket to hand to the cleaners. I really should've had some photos of the final part of the process............eating the fish!Yesterday was Lily's kindergarten physical & shots. She's now hit the 40 lb mark for weight and is 41.9 inches tall (20%). Looks like she's got my genes when it comes to height, unfortunately. I chatted a little with the Dr. about Lily's teeth issues and she thinks it's probably hereditary and that some people just have bad baby teeth. Lily said something while we were there:
Dr. - "What was your favorite thing about preschool"?
Lily - "Going to the gym".
Dr. - "What was your least favorite thing"?
Lily - (after giving it much thought) "Walking quietly".
Her eyesight was 20/30. The Dr. didn't say anything about it but I think all the kids should probably go in for a formal eye exam. Hearing was good. She had to get 4 immunizations, 2 in each leg. She was such a trooper and only cried while they were doing it. She didn't cry when they pricked her finger to check her hemoglobin. We didn't have any luck with her peeing in the cup but she thought it was hysterical.
We got some specific, written instructions to continue on with the potty training. She had made some progress in the last week but the Dr. said she is very constipated which I wasn't expecting. Since we'll be at the lake for 8 days, it'll be the perfect opportunity to work on it.
My mom has always had short hair so never knew how to do fancy braids, etc, for long hair. I taught myself how to french braid my own hair in high school but am way out of practice. I really want to be able to do fancy things for Lily's hair. I'm slow but know I'll get better if I keep on practicing. This is from last weekend.
