Bah Humbug:
- The Steelers football season is basically over for this year. They have to give another team a turn ;) We have so many injured players that it's just pretty hopeless.
- It causes me great stress to just be mailing my Christmas cards. I know that's probably odd but I like to have them out at the beginning of Dec. Dumb computer crash!
Merry Christmas:
- A friend and I made a shopping trip today to buy Christmas presents for a family whose having a rough December. It's a single mom of 5 and she crushed her wrist in a 4-wheeling accident so is unable to work. I have to say it finally got me in the holiday spirit!
- Our entire house is carpeted! Well, except for the theater which we don't plan to finish for a year or two. By the end of Monday, the rest of the flooring will be finished as well as the kitchen counter. We have 2 working toilets, too! (I'll post some more pictures soon).
- We've made plans to go back to Jamestown January 1-3 to move the rest of our furniture. Could still use some prayers for that house to sell. Anytime now would be just perfect!!
- We'll be moving in after we get our things. There will still be little stuff to do but we can do that while living there. I finally feel like I can get excited!!
- My grandma, aunt & uncle, brother & girlfriend, parents, and cousin's family will all be here for Christmas. I love a big Christmas! Ray is thrilled to not have to pack up every single present and travel this year.
That is NO longer the question. Our family always gets flu shots every year. With 3 asthmatics, we can't take the chance. However, I had my concerns this year about the new vaccine for H1N1. I had decided we would go ahead because I thought the benefits outweighed the risks but it hasn't yet become available. The 1st case of H1N1 appeared in our county just last Friday. On that same day, Jace was home with a fever and Cody was home with a sore throat. On Saturday, both boys were perfectly fine so I thought we'd dodged the bullet. Sunday, Cody woke up and said he felt weak and tired so didn't go to church. By the afternoon, he was sporting a fever, had thrown up once, and was coughing. This did not look good.
Cody stayed home from school today and I decided to make him a Dr. appt. since he had all the flu signs. By the time we got to the Dr., his temp was 104.4 and he was dehydrated and hardly able to walk by himself. He was given Tylenol, a shot of Phenagrin, and a Gatorade to try and get better without having IV fluids. After about 15 minutes, the temp was down to 102 and he was drinking a little Gatorade. They also did an influenza test. Around 10 minutes later, the nurse came in to give him some Advil and then they checked his temperature again. It was 103 and off we went to the lab for blood work and then the ER for IV fluids. In the meantime, we were told that he was positive for Influenza A. They send it to the state lab for H1N1 analysis but that's basically the only influenza going around right now so they assume that will also be positive. Cody actually had the regular flu shot 2 weeks ago. We spent 2 hours in the ER while Cody got 2 liters of fluids. It's amazing what a difference it made.
What really stinks is that Cody's only 2 middle school football games are tonight and tomorrow night so he's going to miss them both! They were even playing at the high school under the lights. I'm praying that Jace's brief fever and cough were his version and that Lily's little cough is her version and that Ray, myself, and especially my parents, don't get it at all! I don't think I've ever used so much hand sanitizer in my life!
Cloudy:
- The weather! September was our most summer-like weather of the year. It was just beautiful! October 1 came along and we switched straight to winter. It's been cold, rainy, and windy. Thankfully, we haven't had any snow yet though it's been in the forecast a lot.
- I have to miss Cody's 2nd middle school football game tonight because it's during my choir rehearsal. Pooh!
Sunny:
- I had 3 moles on my back biopsied last week and they all came back negative. I'd had a few done in college and those were also fine. Better safe than sorry, though.
- Every week I've had more children showing up for choir and we're having a great time! I found some really awesome songs for us to sing.
- I raised $285 for the March of Dimes when I went to jail today.
- By the end of today, the entire upstairs of our new house will be primered, 1/2 the ceiling painted, and the kitchen walls done. Moving right along now!
I know I've been neglecting my blog lately. I've been working too much! Before I forget though, I want to share about Jace's game today. It was their first game vs. an out of town team. Jace threw for a TD, ran in an extra point, and made 4 interceptions on defense!! His team won 20-18.
In other exciting news, Ray is putting primer on the walls today!
Fumble:
- I'm having 3 moles removed from my back next Monday. I had 2 removed in college and my chiropractor suggested I have a few checked out at my last appt. before we moved. I finally got around to it yesterday. At first, the Dr. thought there were 2 that just needed watching but then she found one she didn't like under my bra strap. If they're removing one, we might as well just get rid of all 3.
- Jace's flag football team got creamed last night.
- The Steelers lost on Sunday because Jeff Reed missed 2 field goals. I could've understood missing one in the pouring rain but 2?!
Touchdown:
- We're ordering our kitchen cabinets today or tomorrow.
- The perfotaper finally arrived last night and began work today. I'm hoping things will move along now!
- The start of Fall TV programming. I enjoyed DWTS and Castle last night.
- The kids are acclimating soooo well here. I'm very happy and excited for them.
- The 1st practice for my new kids' choir here was last Wednesday and I only had 6 kids (2 were mine). When I scheduled it, I didn't realize it was an "early out" day for school. The church program that is before my choir had less than half of the kids that attended the previous week so I'm hoping my attendance will be much better tomorrow. I'd really like a minimum of 15 kids.
- I went to my first handbell practice last week. I've always wanted to learn to play. It's harder than I thought but the others said I did amazing for my first time.
Jace is in his 2nd week of flag football. He played quarterback the first game and first half of the second game. They lost the 1st game 2 TD's to 1 TD and the 2nd game 2 TD's to 0. Jace has some really nice passes in the first game. He played safety on defense and had an interception in each game.
Ray is the assistant coach for his team.
We had such a wonderful weekend. We spent Saturday morning shopping for house stuff while my brother took the kids out to breakfast, swimming, and to the Farmer's Market. The tile for the main and master bathrooms is now purchased! We're getting close to the end of picking stuff out for the new house, thank goodness!
Next, we headed to the Indoor Football Championship with the Billings Outlaws vs. River City Rage (think they're from Missouri). We had awesome seats about 10 rows up.
Jace got a tshirt, Cody a hat, and Lily a megaphone. The mascot is a horse named Gunsmoke. Instead of cheerleaders, they have a dance team who entered on the back of Harley motorcycles. They also have 3 "outlaws" that fire their guns whenever there's a score. This is the quarterback making his entrance. It was super neat that several of the players came out with their children.
The game got off to an amazing start. The Outlaws were kicking off and did an onside kick right off the bat and got it! The next play was a flea flicker for a TD!! The crowd went wild. Arena football is done on a smaller field and there are no sidelines. The coach actually stands out on the field and fans could reach over the barrier and break up plays which happened once. Another time, a catch was made but the player ended up going head first over the barrier into someone's seat! I was blown away by the fantastic catches that were made. There's very little running game. Because of the smaller field, there's a lot more scoring which makes it very exciting. The Outlaws led the entire game but the Rage came within one TD a few times during the 2nd half which made it scary. The mascot, Gunsmoke, came around and Cody got his autograph and Lily gave him a hug.
The final score was Outlaws 71 and Rage 62! The Outlaws quarterback was awarded the Best Offensive Player and MVP for the Indoor Football League.
We topped it off with a superb supper at the Samurai where they cook the food in front of you. My very favorite!
Not only are the kids now clothed for school but I just might be, too! My mom totally spoiled me with a great sale at Dillard's. I got 2 new dresses, 5 shirts, 2 jackets, and a pair of jeans! Nothing like some new clothes to make you feel like a million bucks.
Thumbs Down:
- I stunk at golf league again this week. I also golfed Monday and Wednesday and apparently my problem is nerves at women's league because I golf much better when I'm not at that!
- My Great Aunt Betty passed away this week. She was 84 and had Alzheimer's so it was a blessing but always sad. She looked a lot like my Little Grandma so I always felt closer to her when Betty was around. I'll be going to Billings with my parents for the funeral tomorrow.
- Big Ben being accused of rape by some gal in a civil case because the DA won't even prosecute. I don't buy it for one second.
Thumbs Up:
- Lily had her 1st sleepover of the summer last night. It worked out especially well because then the boys and I went golfing. After that, Cody babysat Jace while Ray & I met my parents down at the Pub. My mom's best friend and husband were in town for the first time in 3 years.
- They've finally started roofing the house and the stucco guy should be coming soon.
- It's been a pretty uneventful week so I can't think of anything else!
Thumbs Down:
- Football withdrawals.
- The most insane February weather ever. It rained all day yesterday. We're supposed to get a lot of snow today but it hasn't arrived.........yet.
- School started 2 hours late this morning but I didn't find out until I'd already gotten up and showered.
- My sore throat.
- The cost of building is ridiculously high in MT due to the oil boom so Ray's going to end up doing a lot of the work himself.
- My parents got Jace Madden '09 for his new DS but he couldn't open it since we hadn't given him the DS yet. Unfortunately, I forgot the sack with the game in my mom's car so he has nothing to play on it until it arrives in the mail. Bad mom!
Thumbs Up:
- We found a lot we like and have decided to try to buy that instead of building next to my parents'. It's a new subdivision on the outskirts of town on the hill with an amazing view of town. It's 1/2 acre. Here are some pics.
This lot is really low so we don't expect anyone to build on it and there's none behind us so we shouldn't lose our view. Also, lots of places for the boys to ride their dirt bikes.
2. Because of the view, we had to change our house plan completely. We finally found a good one. This is the outside (it won't have clay tiles for a roof).
And this is the layout. The laundry area will become a 1/2 bath for guests and the sunroom will be a laundry/mud room. It's 2397 sq feet and will have a full basement underneath. Cody's room will be downstairs. We'll angle the house on the lot so everything in the back will face the view.
3. The look on Jace's face when he opened his Nintendo DS Lite last night. We had supper at Paradiso.
4. Word Twist on Facebook. It's my new addiction. Way too fun.
5. Meetings & activities being cancelled last night due to weather so we had time to go out for a birthday supper.
6. My brother going to church with us in MT.
