I'm not sure what exactly Cody is but he suggested going to his first dance as a ghost. Then, when it was time to slow dance with a girl, he was going to take off his ghost sheet and be wearing a tux with a rose in his mouth. Well, I told him that was a little expensive. We went down to Party Central and they really didn't have any costumes but a few wigs. However, we found a tuxedo tshirt and a black rose!
Jace is a character from G.I. Joe.
Lily is a genie. So far, she hasn't granted me 3 wishes.
Cody's big celebration was last night at the dance. Tonight, he's going to do a little trick or treating with some friends. Lily's at a friend's party. Afterwards, we'll take her and Jace over to a friend's house. The guys are going to take the kids out (they have 4 kids) and the women will stay at the house and hand out candy. We'll order pizza when the kids are done.
J - Joyous
A - Awesome football player
C - Cool dude
E - Egg eater
That last one really cracks me up because my mom's been making a warm breakfast for the kids each morning usually with eggs. She's going to have to move into our new house with us because the kids aren't going to be happy when I point to the cereal!
We had such a wonderful weekend. We spent Saturday morning shopping for house stuff while my brother took the kids out to breakfast, swimming, and to the Farmer's Market. The tile for the main and master bathrooms is now purchased! We're getting close to the end of picking stuff out for the new house, thank goodness!
Next, we headed to the Indoor Football Championship with the Billings Outlaws vs. River City Rage (think they're from Missouri). We had awesome seats about 10 rows up.
Jace got a tshirt, Cody a hat, and Lily a megaphone. The mascot is a horse named Gunsmoke. Instead of cheerleaders, they have a dance team who entered on the back of Harley motorcycles. They also have 3 "outlaws" that fire their guns whenever there's a score. This is the quarterback making his entrance. It was super neat that several of the players came out with their children.
The game got off to an amazing start. The Outlaws were kicking off and did an onside kick right off the bat and got it! The next play was a flea flicker for a TD!! The crowd went wild. Arena football is done on a smaller field and there are no sidelines. The coach actually stands out on the field and fans could reach over the barrier and break up plays which happened once. Another time, a catch was made but the player ended up going head first over the barrier into someone's seat! I was blown away by the fantastic catches that were made. There's very little running game. Because of the smaller field, there's a lot more scoring which makes it very exciting. The Outlaws led the entire game but the Rage came within one TD a few times during the 2nd half which made it scary. The mascot, Gunsmoke, came around and Cody got his autograph and Lily gave him a hug.
The final score was Outlaws 71 and Rage 62! The Outlaws quarterback was awarded the Best Offensive Player and MVP for the Indoor Football League.
We topped it off with a superb supper at the Samurai where they cook the food in front of you. My very favorite!
Not only are the kids now clothed for school but I just might be, too! My mom totally spoiled me with a great sale at Dillard's. I got 2 new dresses, 5 shirts, 2 jackets, and a pair of jeans! Nothing like some new clothes to make you feel like a million bucks.
Thumbs Down:
- Two funerals in one week.
- Having a hard time picking out our granite. Everytime I find one I like, there either isn't enough or its too soft.
- We had 3 showings on our house this week. Two were really positive and we haven't heard back on the third. Sure hoping something comes of it.
- We've made plans to go visit our friends in ND in 2 weeks. Can't wait!
- The pancakes my husband made for breakfast.
- The stucco process has started on our house. We're in the process of ordering flooring and cabinets.
Stinky:
- I'm signed up to do the women's golf league for the first time tonight and the wind is blowing about 50mph and it's raining off and on. Sure hoping it quits in the next 2 hours!
- I miss my friends back in ND.
- Our house still hasn't sold. Supposedly there was a really positive showing last week but we haven't had an offer. It really needs to sell SOON!
- Coming home Sunday night to a terrible mess left by the babysitter and kids including a pint of chocolate milk sitting on the counter, everything from supper left out, and the kids still awake when it was 1 1/2 hrs past when they were supposed to be in bed!
Perfume:
- Ray & I went on the 2nd annual Cattle Crawl Sunday night. It's a progressive beef dinner. We started out at the Cattle-ac for appetizers, then we went to my parents' restaurant for their big salad bar, next we hopped on 2 large busses and went 10 miles to Fairview for a roast beef dinner, and then we went another 30 miles for a steak dinner before returning. There was a free drink at each stop plus free beer on the bus. Of course, I felt like my normal, boring self because I wasn't drinking.
- The deck being built on our new house.
- Meeting more people.
- Going to Billings this weekend for the soccer tournament. The coach is very impressed with the boys' skills. It'll be nice to bond with the other families, too.
- Seeing my cousin from AZ in Billings this weekend. I think it's been about 5 years!
Thumbs Down:
- The builders are gone this week so very little is happening on the house. Of course, it rained half the time so doesn't really matter if they were here anyway. The rafters have arrived and the builders will be back Sunday so hopefully we'll have a roof next week!
- Missing my friends back in Jamestown.
- Feeling like an outsider.
- Not recognizing people who know me.
- Lily getting green hair from the pool or hot tub.
Thumbs Up:
- Ray & his dad are getting some plumbing done in the house and building walls in the basement.
- Cody making the All Star soccer team here so he gets to go to a tournament next month.
- Jace in wrestling camp.
- Meeting some new people and the kids meeting new friends.
- Eating well :)
- Swimming lessons starting next week so we should all meet a bunch of people there.
Friday, we went to the first branding of the year. Though I am basically a city girl, I've always loved branding time. Not the actual act of the branding itself, but the gathering of people, the cowboys, and most of all, the food! My dad doesn't actually brand cattle anymore but we still call it branding. Instead, he just does ear tags. At the same time, they vaccinate the calves. That also means a lot less cowboys and no big meal :(
Cody was missing from the pictures because he had a migraine so was sleeping in the car.
The next day, grandpa took us shopping. Lily got a pink cowgirl hat, boots, and shirt. The boys each got cowboy hats, boots, and Wranglers. I even got a little something.
They don't come off at bedtime either.
Wednesday was the 6th grade class's family picnic.
They have a fun song they sing for grace to the tune of the Superman Theme Song.
Thursday night was 6th grade graduation for Cody's class. It was held at the Basilica and was mainly a Mass with the 6th graders leading most of the service. The prelude consisted of 6th graders singing, playing piano, and instruments.
Cody was part of the Procession of Roses. The first rose was a bud which represented the kids as they entered preschool. The 2nd rose which Cody carried was starting to bloom which represented the kids now. The last rose was in full bloom and represented the kids as adults.
Cody and Nick U. were song leaders for 5 songs.
I really wanted to tell everyone else not to sing so we could just hear them ;) The Priest did a really nice sermon about the importance of parents and grandparents in the kids' lives. Then, they presented the class with their graduation certificates and gave out awards. There was a special recognition of our family since we're moving.
At the end of the service, the whole class sang their class song, "Awesome God".
Of course, I got teary numerous times throughout the program. More than Cody graduating was the fact that Jace & Lily won't get to go through this ceremony and it was so wonderful.
After the ceremony, there was a reception with food and a slideshow of the kids' journies since preschool.
Cody had a fabulous teacher for 6th grade.
After the reception, the parents of one of Cody's classmates had a party for them until 1 am! They got to hot tub, play Rock Band, karoake, etc. It was a very special evening for the kids.
Saturday night, we had a going away party for the kids. We rented a place in town called the Bunker and my friend's husband DJ'd for us. The first 1/2 hour, the 6th grade girls were in one spot,
the boys were in one spot, the 3rd graders were playing tag, the kindergarteners were doing a craft project or being shy, and others were eating. So, I had our DJ, Gndsgang's husband, play the YMCA and the Hokey Pokey. That finally got the kids dancing. Some kids played foozball, some watched TV, some cooled off on the deck, some ate, and others just goofed around! There were a total of 40 kids there and the party lasted 2 hours. This is how everyone felt at the end of the party.
