Cody's 1st middle school wrestling meet was this weekend. I dropped him off at the bus around 7 and was surprised to find my emotions get the best of me yet again. How could my baby be old enough to go on the bus for a sporting event? The rest of us including my dad, brother, and his girlfriend drove separately. Cody only had 2 matches that lasted about 80 seconds total between the two of them because Cody pinned his opponents so quickly! It was awesome to see the confidence he has and how quickly he took care of business. Of course, the two 8th grade wrestling managers who are adorable each had to give him a hug to congratulate him.
Saturday night, we went to the local "Food and Wine Festival". We got to dress up and went with my brother and his girlfriend, Amy. She just moved back to town from Missoula so it was a good chance for us to get to know her. We saw lots of people and ate lots of food. I even found myself a non-alcoholic wine so that was nice. The bad part was there were no tables to sit at. They had a few bar tables and a few very uncomfortable benches but my feet were killing me an hour into it.
There was also a silent auction with local artwork including several photos. I'm debating donating one myself next year. I'd have to see if any of my favorites look good blown up. Sadly, I've taken very few photos this year. We didn't get a picture of ourselves but we looked just like this :)
There's a chill in the air. Show us your favorite coat.
Submitted by jacolily.I have 2 favorite coats but have only managed to get a picture with one so far so will have to share the other one later. My mom bought this one for me this summer.
I'm going to start working 2 mornings a week at the office of my parents' businesses. I'm going to help with accounting and some benefit things. Now, I have a place to where the great new clothes my mom bought me!
I can't wait to hear how their first day goes. Lily's teacher seems very nice and there is 1 boy and 1 girl in her class that she knows. We actually had Jace's teacher changed because the 3 boys he's become friends with were all in another class. I'm so glad the principal and teacher were receptive to that. It's a much larger class than he's used to, though. At the middle school, only the 6th graders and transfer students attend today. I think it's a brilliant idea for the kids to learn their way around without a lot of congestion. They even go swimming at the end of the day! Cody was very excited and up at 6:15.
We had such a wonderful weekend. We spent Saturday morning shopping for house stuff while my brother took the kids out to breakfast, swimming, and to the Farmer's Market. The tile for the main and master bathrooms is now purchased! We're getting close to the end of picking stuff out for the new house, thank goodness!
Next, we headed to the Indoor Football Championship with the Billings Outlaws vs. River City Rage (think they're from Missouri). We had awesome seats about 10 rows up.
Jace got a tshirt, Cody a hat, and Lily a megaphone. The mascot is a horse named Gunsmoke. Instead of cheerleaders, they have a dance team who entered on the back of Harley motorcycles. They also have 3 "outlaws" that fire their guns whenever there's a score. This is the quarterback making his entrance. It was super neat that several of the players came out with their children.
The game got off to an amazing start. The Outlaws were kicking off and did an onside kick right off the bat and got it! The next play was a flea flicker for a TD!! The crowd went wild. Arena football is done on a smaller field and there are no sidelines. The coach actually stands out on the field and fans could reach over the barrier and break up plays which happened once. Another time, a catch was made but the player ended up going head first over the barrier into someone's seat! I was blown away by the fantastic catches that were made. There's very little running game. Because of the smaller field, there's a lot more scoring which makes it very exciting. The Outlaws led the entire game but the Rage came within one TD a few times during the 2nd half which made it scary. The mascot, Gunsmoke, came around and Cody got his autograph and Lily gave him a hug.
The final score was Outlaws 71 and Rage 62! The Outlaws quarterback was awarded the Best Offensive Player and MVP for the Indoor Football League.
We topped it off with a superb supper at the Samurai where they cook the food in front of you. My very favorite!
Not only are the kids now clothed for school but I just might be, too! My mom totally spoiled me with a great sale at Dillard's. I got 2 new dresses, 5 shirts, 2 jackets, and a pair of jeans! Nothing like some new clothes to make you feel like a million bucks.
Friday, we went to the first branding of the year. Though I am basically a city girl, I've always loved branding time. Not the actual act of the branding itself, but the gathering of people, the cowboys, and most of all, the food! My dad doesn't actually brand cattle anymore but we still call it branding. Instead, he just does ear tags. At the same time, they vaccinate the calves. That also means a lot less cowboys and no big meal :(
Cody was missing from the pictures because he had a migraine so was sleeping in the car.
The next day, grandpa took us shopping. Lily got a pink cowgirl hat, boots, and shirt. The boys each got cowboy hats, boots, and Wranglers. I even got a little something.
They don't come off at bedtime either.
Thumbs Down:
- What kind of idiots give their employees contracts that promise bonuses even when the company loses millions of dollars? I wonder if they're still hiring...............
Thumbs Up:
- Happy St. Patrick's Day!
2. Kids are so adorable when they're sleeping. Lily doesn't want to mess up her bed so I found her asleep like this last night.
3. Tomorrow, Cody's class leaves on a field trip to Minneapolis. They'll be going to an art museum, the symphony (composed by a 17 yr old), volunteering at Mary's Place, eating Japanese where they cook it in front of you, and spending the night at a church. They return late tomorrow night. I'm really bummed that I can't go with and annoyed that the chaperone spots were already filled before a notice came out asking for volunteers. Oh well, I'm not much for sleeping on floors anyway. Today at noon, we're having a prayer service for them. I'm really going to miss that kind of thing at public school.
4. I spied and saw the people who came to look at our house last night. They had a boy who looked about 1-2 yrs old. I bet he loved the toy room! I must say it was weird to see strangers going into my house, though.
5. We're having gorgeous spring weather this week. We might even hit 50 degrees! The snow is melting faster than I thought possible which isn't all good as we have some flood advisories. It was also hard on Cody's first snowman which fell over so he rebuilt it bigger and better. Good thing I got another picture because the new one fell over now, too.
Thumbs Down:
- The cost of building this house is getting a little crazy aka scary.
- Lily's attitude has been atrocious lately. I dread every morning because of the fights. I guess we'll see if being grounded every night helps improve things.
- I found a summer picture of the front of our house (which is much more inviting that it currently looks) and had the realtor use it on their website. I know I have a summer picture of my backyard somewhere but can't find it so just took one. Doesn't it just make you want to move here?
And if that's not enticing enough I also took a shot looking down the street. The snowbanks are almost as tall as me (and I've grown 1/4 inch).
Thumbs Up:
- My house has never looked so perrrrty.
- All the realtors in town toured the house this morning. I guess there was good feedback. Now, they need to bring in the buyers!
- My roots are blonde again.
- The temperature is above 31 and snow is melting. PTL!
- I bought a new sweater at the mall today. Haven't tried it on yet.
This is Jace. The "S" is for the Steelers, of course.
I'll be going to the school later this morning to watch the 6th grade basketball game that Cody will participate in. Then, later today, they do Fear Factor for the 6th graders. Of course, Cody won't do that. We thought it would be pretty hilarious to have him out there and then try to make him eat a piece of pizza!
