Roll Out the Barrel
Last night was our final dancing lesson. It's been so hard to get us all together that we decided to tough it out and do 2 hours at once. Normally, it wouldn't be too bad but we didn't have our normal venue so were stuck in a non-air conditioned racketball court.
It was Latin night. The first dance we learned was the Cha-Cha-Cha. Ray caught onto the steps right away but I struggled a bit at first. I finally figured it out and was having quite a bit of fun with it. I did learn that my hips sway much better to the left than the right. Next, we learned the Salsa. It's supposed to be harder but I found it much easier. The Salsa is 3 steps and the Cha-Cha-Cha is 10 steps. However, it took Ray forever to get the Salsa! We only learned a few turns to go with it but I'm guessing all the other things you can add are what make it difficult.
With 5 minutes remaining, our instructor showed Ray the trick to learning the Polka which is what I most wanted out of these lessons. Would you believe that's all it took? I've been trying to teach him for 19 years! Apparently, I didn't know the secret trick because after that Ray was whirling me all around the room while we danced to "Roll Out the Barrel". It was awesome! I have such fantastic memories of dancing the Polka with my dad and my feet coming off the floor when we'd turn. Now, I get to share that with my husband, too!
We're all wondering when we'll have the opportunity to use these dances so we don't forget. Luckily, our church is having a Family Dance on Mother's Day so we'll get to try out all our new moves!
