Li'l Runaround
With gas prices at $4.50/gallon and Ray driving 25 miles a day to work, we decided it was time to get him a cheap commuter car. We looked for a few weeks. Seems that we're not the only people with the idea as small, cheap cars are hard to find but there are a lot of trucks and SUV's on the market! We finally found one that was a little more than we were planning to spend but also has even better gas mileage than we were hoping for at 35-40 mpg. It's a 2000 Saturn.
It's only a 4-seater but there's no reason our whole family should need to be in it. It's also a stick shift. Ray tried to teach me how to drive a stick on his '74 truck when we were dating and it wasn't pretty. I basically gave up after a few embarrassing episodes. However, this car is kind of cute and I may need to drive it occasionally. So Sunday night, we went to the high school parking lot and I practiced. It's definitely easier than that old pickup was and I'm getting the hang of it. Still need more practice before I'll feel comfortable. It's such a sporty little car that it makes me feel like we're back in high school again. Don't worry, we won't be checking out the backseat ;)
We've never been for naming cars but java janie has inspired me and I feel like this car needs a name. Ideas?

Very good! I paid >$4/g for the first time this weekend -- blech. I've always really liked the Saturns I've driven. I think you should name it Pioneer -- for the first spacecraft to explore Saturn -- and a good reference to the place you guys live... :)
Hmm, I think it looks a little too sporty for Pioneer.
Sporty looking! It looks like a Gus...don't know why that came to mind but it did! :) Maybe for Gas for Us!
